Timberlake Drops In On Southern Hospitality, Crew Changes Timberstoves

timberstoves.jpg

Pop star Justin Timberlake was seen entering Southern Hospitality (on 2nd, near 76th) this afternoon, probably dropping in to count the piles of cash the place is raking in.  While the Timbermobile — the black Escalade with the tinted windows — sat parked out front, the Southern Hos crew gave the kitchen a boost with some new stoves (pictured above).

A few week’s back we asked when the crowd at Southern Hospitality would begin to thin out and those who responded all gave dates that have already passed.  Should Brother Jimmy’s be getting nervous?

Upper East Side Best Bars Poll

We’re getting to close to revealing our all-inclusive, neighborhood-wide, ‘Best Bars Poll’ – but you still have time to weigh-in with your thoughts.  Shoot us an email or hit the comments section here, and lets hear your picks for the UES’s best bars and worst bars, the biggest dives, hottest bartenders, worst bouncers, biggest loser hangouts, best for (fill in your favorite team) fans, best places for buy backs – and whatever else comes to mind.

We’ve been collecting opinions for a few weeks now, so here’s a little glimpse at some early favs: Blondie’s is making a strong case in the “Best Place To Watch A Game” category and, sorry American Trash, but you’re nearly an unanimous vote for “Worst Bar Ever.”

Sidewalk Cafes Galore!

shipoffools.jpg

It’s sllloooow in the news department today – perfect time to work in some sidewalk cafe news!  Two have been unveiled recently. The first is part of pop star Justin Timberlake’s Southern Hospitality (on 2nd between 76th and 77th), which is bringing sidewalk back with its ‘lil cafe area.  The spot unveiled the sidewalk digs a few days after opening. It’s lately been catering to a lot of people who drive Range Rovers with New Jersey plates, and lots and lots of tourists.

Sidewalk cafe number two, which was added when the interior of the spot got an overhaul a few weeks back, is from Ship of Fools (on 2nd between 82nd and 83rd). They re-did the front part of the bar, removed two booths by the door which opened the place up a bit. The pic above is of their spiffy new outdoor cafe.

And just when it seemed like there was no other exciting sidewalk cafe news to be found, this rolled in: Sushi Hana (on 78th and 2nd) and Green Kitchen (on 1st at 77th) recently applied for sidewalk cafe permits with Community Board 8, which make recommendations to the city about who should and should not get permits for a sidewalk cafes, among other things.

Southern Hospitality Still Mobbed

2007_07_southerhosp.jpg

Since throwing its doors open July 19, the Justin Timberlake-owned Southern Hospitality BBQ spot has been pretty consistently mobbed.  The above pic is from Saturday night around 6 pm — about 25 people were waiting outside trying to get in.

I know its only been open about 2 weeks, but what’s the over/under on this place dying down?

Timberlake’s Southern Hospitality Opens…Kind Of

flag2.jpg

After some delays, workers put the finishing touches on pop star Justin Timberlake’s new BBQ spot, Southern Hospitality, over the weekend — hanging the banner on Saturday, and very unofficially and quietly opening the doors Saturday night with a young gent named Jarod helming the bar.

So what’s on the menu? According to Jarod, nothing yet.

Despite the 30, or so, in Southern Hospitality Saturday night — who were drinking and hanging out at the bar — the place isn’t actually open until later in the week, although 78thand2nd walked right in (sorry, no camera) and hung out for a minute before inquiring about the menu.

“No menus yet, we’re not really open,” said the bartender, “we going to open Thursday.”

So what’s going on inside?  The walls are lined with N’Sync plaques and a full-sized statue of Jessica Biel greets you at the door.  Ok, actually not.  But it’s a little more bar-oriented than you may have guessed — the first half of the space is lined with a bar on the right side and tables for dinner are towards the back.  Brother Jimmy’s might have something to worry about.

Southern Hospitality is located at 1460 2nd Avenue, between 76th and 77th.

Update: The Post reports the restaurant will be open Wednesday.
