Pop star Justin Timberlake was seen entering Southern Hospitality (on 2nd, near 76th) this afternoon, probably dropping in to count the piles of cash the place is raking in. While the Timbermobile — the black Escalade with the tinted windows — sat parked out front, the Southern Hos crew gave the kitchen a boost with some new stoves (pictured above).
A few week’s back we asked when the crowd at Southern Hospitality would begin to thin out and those who responded all gave dates that have already passed. Should Brother Jimmy’s be getting nervous?

Old Chambers store, 76th and 2nd
Last week we spotlighted some of your recent UES store front inquiries — and below check out the info gathered to this point. Thanks to everyone who responded in the comments and via email.
1) 76th and 2nd: Robert wrote “Any idea what is coming to the old Chambers store spot on 76th and 2nd? Heard a rumor that it is leased by the owner of Mo’s Caribbean…hope it is not yet another bank or cell phone store.”
The space is currently under construction (click through to find a pic inside the spot) and according to 78thand2nd commenters CK and Ace it looks like Pottery Barn Kid’s clothing is setting up shop. From Ace:
Right on about the PB Kids store. A little more info- Williams Sonoma- part of the of Pottery Barn corporation has absorbed the Chambers stores into the new Williams Sonoma Home stores- the new Chambers line was just introduced in their catoalogs. No stores open here yet but slated for later this year (higher end PB merchandise). So there won’t be any more Chambers stores.

We’re getting to close to revealing our all-inclusive, neighborhood-wide, ‘Best Bars Poll’ – but you still have time to weigh-in with your thoughts. Shoot us an email or hit the comments section here, and lets hear your picks for the UES’s best bars and worst bars, the biggest dives, hottest bartenders, worst bouncers, biggest loser hangouts, best for (fill in your favorite team) fans, best places for buy backs – and whatever else comes to mind.
We’ve been collecting opinions for a few weeks now, so here’s a little glimpse at some early favs: Blondie’s is making a strong case in the “Best Place To Watch A Game” category and, sorry American Trash, but you’re nearly an unanimous vote for “Worst Bar Ever.”

It’s sllloooow in the news department today – perfect time to work in some sidewalk cafe news! Two have been unveiled recently. The first is part of pop star Justin Timberlake’s Southern Hospitality (on 2nd between 76th and 77th), which is bringing sidewalk back with its ‘lil cafe area. The spot unveiled the sidewalk digs a few days after opening. It’s lately been catering to a lot of people who drive Range Rovers with New Jersey plates, and lots and lots of tourists.
Sidewalk cafe number two, which was added when the interior of the spot got an overhaul a few weeks back, is from Ship of Fools (on 2nd between 82nd and 83rd). They re-did the front part of the bar, removed two booths by the door which opened the place up a bit. The pic above is of their spiffy new outdoor cafe.
And just when it seemed like there was no other exciting sidewalk cafe news to be found, this rolled in: Sushi Hana (on 78th and 2nd) and Green Kitchen (on 1st at 77th) recently applied for sidewalk cafe permits with Community Board 8, which make recommendations to the city about who should and should not get permits for a sidewalk cafes, among other things.

Here’s a round-up of recent questions from 78thand2nd readers about neighborhood happenings. If you’re in the know, please enlighten us all in the comments section.
1) 76th and 2nd: Robert writes “Any idea what is coming to the old Chambers store spot on 76th and 2nd? Heard a rumor that it is leased by the owner of Mo’s Caribbean…hope it is not yet another bank or cell phone store.”
2) 73rd and 1st: Michael asks “I was wondering if you knew what was going to take the place of the bodega that recently closed on the northeast corner of 73 & 1? i was out of town for four or five days, and on my return i noticed that my corner store was gutted. there wasn’t any notice.”
3) 79th and York: Ace reporter Adam writes in “something is brewing on the northeast corner of 79 and York, previously inhabited by the Chase bank that moved across York a few months ago.” Anyone have an idea what’s going in? (the doors of this space are pictured above)
